NYPAW RESIDENT CONDUCTOR














Mr Xaven Chng started his music journey during his primary school days playing the clarinet. Moving on to Manjusri Secondary School Military Band, he picks up the trumpet as his primary instrument then and was appointed the Band Major during his final year.

Continuing his passion in music, Xaven joined the NYP Symphonic Band (now known as NYP Wind Orchestra) while he was pursuing his diploma in Nanyang Polytechnic. At the same time, he also plays in the Moulmein Wind Ensemble where he was appointed president in 1998.

Xaven signed-on with the Singapore Armed Forces Band, where he attained a grade 8 in trumpet performance from the Trinity College of London after his graduation from Nanyang Polytechnic. Upon completion of service, he furthered his music education at National Institute of Education (NIE) and was awarded a Specialist Diploma in Band Directing with Merit in 2005.

He has been the Resident Conductor for Bishan Park Secondary Symphonic Band, Greenridge Secondary Symphinic Band, Bedok Town Military Band and Moulmein Wind Ensemble since then.

Mr Xaven Chng is presently tutoring Hillgrove Secondary Concert Band, Northbrooks Secondary Concert Band and Paya Lebar Methodist Girls' School, where he shares his music appreciation with his students.
